EASE OF DOING BUSINESS IN MALAYSIA

For 2013, Doing Business, a project by The World Bank and International Finance Corporation,  ranked Malaysia as Number 12 out of 185 economies in Ease of Doing Business. It is an improvement for Malaysia who was ranked 14 in 2012. Little surprise that the world's favourite countries for setting-up companies, Singapore and Hong Kong are both ranked Number 1 and 2 respectively in Ease of Doing Business. 

Doing Business also rank countries in areas such as Ease of Starting a Business, Dealing with Construction Permits, Ease of Getting Electricity, Registering Property, Getting Credit, Protecting Investors, Paying Taxes, Trading Across Borders, Enforcing Contracts, Resolving Insolvency.

In 2013, for Ease of Starting a Business, Malaysia dropped 12 spots from number 42 in 2012 to 54 in 2013. Ease of Starting a Business measures the challenges of launching a business such as the number of steps entrepreneurs can expect to go through to launch, the time it takes on average, and the cost and minimum capital required as a percentage of gross national income (GNI) per capita. You will see an improvement to Malayisa's ranking in 2014 as the Companies Commission of Malaysia has recently introduced 1-Day Incorporation platform whereby steps to incorporate a company have been simplified and merged into one.

Background Information of Doing Business

The Doing Business Project, launched in 2002, looks at domestic small and medium-size companies and measures the regulations applying to them through their life cycle. It provides objective measures of business regulations and their enforcement across 185 economies and selected cities at the sub-national and regional level.
